London, June 9, 2025 — Cosine AI joined a select group of startups, scale-ups, founders, and VCs at a private ministerial roundtable during London Tech Week to discuss the future of AI policy in the UK. The invitation-only event provided a platform for Cosine and other key players to offer feedback on government initiatives aimed at making the UK a global hub for artificial intelligence.

The policy push comes on the heels of a major announcement from Labour leader Keir Starmer: £1 billion in new funding for AI data centres. This investment signals the UK’s intent to scale AI infrastructure and secure its place as a leader in the global AI race.

A Seat at the Table

Cosine’s CTO, Pandelis Zembashis, participated in the roundtable alongside senior government figures and industry leaders from organisations like Amazon and the Social Market Foundation. The session was hosted by Feryal Clark MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Digital Government, and focused on how the UK can best support AI innovation across the stack — from early-stage talent to enterprise-grade infrastructure.

The discussions tackled key challenges and opportunities in AI development:

1. Startup Formation and Growth

Strengthening the startup ecosystem was front and centre — with emphasis on unlocking funding, building support networks, and improving the investment-readiness of AI ventures.

2. Talent and Education

Participants highlighted the need to accelerate AI education and training, ensuring the UK cultivates a workforce capable of building, deploying, and maintaining advanced AI systems.

3. Agile Regulation

There was strong alignment around the need for smart, flexible regulation that protects core values without stifling innovation — particularly for rapidly evolving technologies like LLMs and autonomous agents.

4. Cross-Sector Collaboration

From government to academia to industry, deeper collaboration was seen as essential to scaling AI adoption responsibly and effectively.

Cosine’s Role in Shaping the Future of AI

As part of the roundtable, Cosine shared insights from its work on Genie — a fully autonomous AI software engineer capable of reasoning through tasks and writing code much like a human dev would. Genie exemplifies the kind of breakthrough technology that could redefine software development workflows, and Cosine’s experience helped ground the policy discussion in real-world capabilities.

Cosine’s participation in this event reflects its growing influence in the UK tech scene and its mission to bring transformative AI tools to developers. As the UK moves to formalise its AI strategy, input from practitioners — not just policymakers — will be critical.

With the government’s increased investment and willingness to engage directly with builders, the message is clear: the UK wants to lead in AI, and it’s looking to companies like Cosine to help chart the course.
